Everlast

1 upcoming festival

House of Pain's frontman turned bluesman — 'What It's Like' still lands heavy, acoustic grit and rap cadence sharing one gravel voice.

Everlast is the stage name of Erik Schrody, a rapper and singer who first became widely known as the frontman of House of Pain, the Los Angeles group behind 'Jump Around'. He had earlier been affiliated with Ice-T's Rhyme Syndicate and released solo hip-hop material before that group formed.

After House of Pain disbanded, and following a heart attack in the late 1990s, he reinvented his sound on Whitey Ford Sings the Blues, pairing acoustic guitar and blues and folk structures with a rapped and half-sung delivery. The single 'What It's Like' was a substantial hit. He has continued to record in that hybrid style, and also works as part of the duo La Coka Nostra.
