Jack White came out of Detroit as one half of the White Stripes, the duo he formed with Meg White, whose stripped-down guitar-and-drums arrangements and red-and-white presentation made them one of the central bands of the early-2000s garage rock revival. He has since worked with the Raconteurs and the Dead Weather, and released a run of solo albums.

His music draws heavily on blues, country and early rock and roll, filtered through distorted guitar and a preference for analogue recording. White founded Third Man Records in Nashville, which operates as a label, pressing plant and storefront, and he has been an outspoken advocate for vinyl and for the constraints of older recording methods.
