Self-made silk — Detroit R&B auteur with a devoted following, self-released and sounding more expensive than most majors.

JMSN is the recording name of Christian Berishaj, a singer, multi-instrumentalist and producer from the Detroit area. He writes, plays, records and mixes most of his own material, and has released it independently through his own imprint rather than through a major label. The result is a strain of alternative R&B built on falsetto vocals, live bass and guitar, and unhurried, warm-sounding arrangements that lean as much on soul and funk as on contemporary R&B production.

Beyond his own albums, Berishaj has worked as a producer and collaborator with other artists, and his records have built an audience largely by word of mouth. His live shows are played with a band, with Berishaj handling vocals and guitar.
