Toadies
'Possum Kingdom' — Texas alt-rock's eternal dark ride, still promising to be your angel nightly, Texas gothic in radio form.
Toadies formed in Fort Worth, Texas, in 1989, with singer and guitarist Vaden Todd Lewis at the centre of the band. Their sound sits between grunge-era alternative rock and hard rock, built on tight, angular guitar riffs, odd time signatures and Lewis's narrative lyrics, which often draw on Southern gothic imagery and unreliable narrators.
They broke through in the mid-1990s with "Possum Kingdom", a song named after a Texas lake and still the group's best-known recording. The band split at the turn of the 2000s before reuniting, and has continued to record and tour, remaining closely identified with the Texas rock scene.
