Thick, downtuned '90s worship that a whole generation found late and adopted wholesale — 'Youngest Daughter' the unlikely viral hymn.

Superheaven formed in Doylestown, Pennsylvania in 2008 under the name Daylight, releasing an early run of EPs including Sinking, Dispirit and The Difference in Good and Bad Dreams before adopting their current name in 2014 following a naming dispute with a Spanish band of the same name. Guitarist and vocalist Taylor Madison has said the change didn't affect the band's direction or lineup.

The band plays thick, downtuned alternative rock with roots in early-1990s grunge and post-hardcore, built on distorted guitar and shared vocals. Their 2013 album Jar, released on Run for Cover, reached the Billboard 200 and got them named among Alternative Press's acts to watch. A second album, Ours Is Chrome, followed in 2015 on SideOneDummy after the band signed there in 2014.

After touring behind Ours Is Chrome, Superheaven stopped working full-time; members scattered into other projects, including Webbed Wing, DARK MTNS and Flight Habit, while one former member left music for carpentry. The band still played occasional reunion shows through the late 2010s, including a 2018 Planned Parenthood benefit and a run of dates opening for Balance and Composure's final tour in 2019.

A fuller return came in 2022 with festival dates in the UK, followed by US festival slots in 2023 and a tour marking Jar's tenth anniversary. That same year, 'Youngest Daughter' from Jar went viral on TikTok and reached number three on Billboard's Hot Hard Rock Songs chart, introducing the band's older catalogue to a much wider audience.

New material followed: the single 'Long Gone' in late 2024, their first release since 2015, and a self-titled third album announced for 2025.
