Breaking Benjamin

Pennsylvania's reliably heavy melodic rock — brooding verses, enormous choruses, and a catalogue that never chased a trend because the formula never stopped working.

Breaking Benjamin formed in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, in the late 1990s, taking their name from singer and guitarist Benjamin Burnley, who has remained the band's constant member through several lineup changes. Their music is post-grunge and alternative metal: down-tuned riffs, quiet-loud dynamics, and choruses written for large rooms, with Burnley alternating between a clean tenor and a harsher growl. The band became a fixture of American rock radio in the 2000s, went on hiatus for several years around the end of that decade, and returned with a new lineup in the mid-2010s. Their approach has stayed largely unchanged across their catalogue.
