Wolfmother formed in Sydney in 2003 and released a self-titled debut in 2005 that drew heavily on late-1960s and 1970s hard rock — Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath and Deep Purple among the obvious reference points — with organ, fuzzed riffs and Andrew Stockdale's high vocals. "Woman" and "Joker & the Thief" became the band's best-known songs, and the album found an international audience.

The original trio broke up in 2008, and Stockdale has continued under the Wolfmother name with changing lineups across subsequent albums, including Cosmic Egg.
