Royel Otis

1 festival played

Sydney duo making breezy, slightly stoned jangle-pop, plus a sideline in covers that keep outrunning their originals — 'Murder on the Dancefloor' included.

Royel Otis is the Sydney pairing of guitarist Royel Maddell and singer Otis Pavlovic, who began releasing music together in the late 2010s across a run of short EPs before their first full-length album, Pratts & Pain, arrived in 2024. The songs tend towards loose, sun-bleached guitar pop: chiming and slightly detuned, with Pavlovic's laconic delivery sitting low in the mix.

The duo's wider audience came largely through triple j's Like a Version segment, where their reworkings of other people's songs circulated well beyond Australia. Live, they play as a full band, and the set generally leans harder and faster than the recordings.
