Bedroom-recorded songs that curdle in beautiful ways — pitch-shifted vocals, folk melodies, and lyrics that never explain themselves, from indie rock's most quietly influential songwriter of the past decade.

Alexander Giannascoli grew up in Havertown, a Philadelphia suburb, where an older brother gave him a guitar at eleven. Through high school he recorded with various projects, including a goth-techno duo with his sister and a band called The Skin Cells, before studying English at Temple University and dropping out at seventeen to pursue music, self-releasing on Bandcamp from 2010.

The songs draw on indie rock, country and folk, often built around plain melodies and oblique, unresolved lyrics sung in character, recorded with the rough edges of home recording, tape hiss, abrupt edits, pitch-shifted and sped-up vocals, still audible even as the productions have grown more detailed.

His label debut, DSU, came out on Orchid Tapes in 2014 before a European release through Lucky Number. He signed to Domino the same year and released Beach Music, Rocket, House of Sugar and God Save the Animals, then moved to RCA Records in 2024 and put out Headlights in 2025.

He contributed to the soundtrack of Frank Ocean's Blonde and later scored three films for director Jane Schoenbrun: We're All Going to the World's Fair, I Saw the TV Glow and Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma. He tours with a longtime band of Sam Acchione on guitar, John Heywood on bass and Tom Kelly on drums.
