German trancecore turned full variety act — day-glo costumes, absurd videos, and breakdowns that genuinely hit, the internet's favorite metal party band.

Electric Callboy formed in Castrop-Rauxel, in Germany's Ruhr region, in 2010, originally recording as Eskimo Callboy. The band's early releases, beginning with a self-released debut EP and the 2012 album Bury Me in Vegas, worked in a post-hardcore style with serious lyrics, before a line-up and name change in the early 2020s pushed the group toward the comedic, high-energy identity it has since become known for.

The group works in electronicore and trancecore, pairing metalcore breakdowns and screamed vocals with synth hooks, clean choruses and dance rhythms borrowed from trance and EDM. Members also perform occasional DJ sets under the name Electric Bassboy, extending the electronic side of the band into a separate live format.

Albums such as We Are the Mess, released in 2014 and recorded with producer Kristian Kohlmannslehner, and Rehab, released in 2019 behind the single Hurricane, mark the band's transition years, charting in Germany and Austria while building a following through constant touring, including dates in Japan, China and Russia and festival appearances such as Wacken Open Air.

Vocalist Biesler left the band in February 2020 to form the project Ghostkid, and was replaced by Nico Sallach, formerly of To the Rats and Wolves, who had toured with the band years earlier. The change coincided with the shift toward the band's current sound and visual identity.

The band's profile grew substantially through its videos, which lean on bright costumes, choreography and comic scenarios and have circulated widely online. Live, the material keeps the same balance of heaviness and party atmosphere, with the electronic elements sitting on equal footing with the guitars.
