Early djent architects out of Minneapolis — eight-string polyrhythms and huge grooves whose low end still lands harder live than any recording has managed to capture.

After the Burial formed in Minneapolis in 2004 and are among the bands most often cited in accounts of djent's early development. Their music combines metalcore and deathcore aggression with extended-range guitar work, syncopated riff patterns and abrupt rhythmic displacement, typically over blast-heavy drumming.

The group's albums include Rareform and In Dreams, and guitarist Trent Hafdahl has been a constant through the band's history. Founding guitarist Justin Lowe died in 2015; the band continued as a four-piece afterward. Their live sets emphasise the low-tuned, percussive side of the material.
