ERRA formed in Birmingham, Alabama in 2009 and has spent well over a decade refining a strain of metalcore that leans heavily on progressive and djent-adjacent guitar writing. Guitarist Jesse Cash handles the clean vocals alongside JT Cavey's harsh delivery, a division of labour that has shaped the band's sound since Cavey joined in the mid-2010s.

The music tends to pair tightly tracked, low-tuned rhythm playing with bright lead lines and reverb-heavy textures, so the heavier passages sit against something closer to atmospheric post-rock. ERRA has become one of the more consistently cited bands in modern progressive metalcore, and their records are frequently pointed to by guitarists for their tone and layering.
