Texas metalcore built on clean-vocal lift and reliably enormous breakdowns — arena-scale heaviness delivered with total consistency.

Fit For A King formed in Tyler, Texas, in 2007 under a different lineup that released two independent EPs before Ryan Kirby joined as vocalist in 2010, arriving from the band Bodies Awake along with guitarist Bobby Lynge. The pairing of Kirby's harsh vocals and Lynge's melodic cleans became the band's defining trait. An independent album, Descendants, followed in 2011.

The band signed to Solid State Records in 2012 and issued a redux of Descendants the following year alongside their label debut, Creation/Destruction, which sold more than 3,100 copies in its first week and reached number six on Billboard's Hard Rock Albums chart. Slave to Nothing followed in 2014, featuring a guest appearance from Mattie Montgomery of For Today.

Kirby's harsh vocals and Lynge's melodic cleans give the songs their characteristic lift out of low, chugging riffs and into big choruses, drawing on melodic metalcore and post-hardcore in roughly equal measure. The live show is built around breakdowns and singalong refrains.

Deathgrip arrived in 2016 and Dark Skies in 2018, the year Lynge stepped back from touring to spend more time with family while remaining involved in writing. The band has kept releasing steadily since, with The Path in 2020, The Hell We Create in 2022 and Lonely God in 2025, and now also includes guitarist Daniel Gailey, bassist Ryan "Tuck" O'Leary and drummer Trey Celaya.
