Freddie Gibbs and The Alchemist are a rapper and producer pairing whose collaborative album Alfredo brought together Gibbs's dense, technically detailed rapping and Alchemist's sample-based production. The Alchemist, a Los Angeles producer with a long history in underground and mainstream rap alike, favours dusty soul and library-record loops with minimal drum programming, which leaves considerable space for a vocalist. Gibbs, originally from Gary, Indiana, fills that space with tightly written verses about street life, money and family, delivered in a voice that moves easily between clipped aggression and something closer to conversation. The record was widely praised and remains the pair's best-known joint work.
