Avalon Emerson is an American DJ and producer, originally from Arizona and long associated with San Francisco and later Berlin, who built her reputation in club music with a run of techno and house releases and a mix for the DJ-Kicks series. The Charm is the band project through which she moved into songwriting, singing over guitar and synthesizer arrangements that sit closer to dream pop and indie than to the dancefloor. The production still carries traces of her club background — attention to texture, patient builds — but the material is structured as songs, with her own vocals at the centre.
