Jerron Paxton is a musician from South Central Los Angeles whose family roots lie in Louisiana, and who performs prewar African American music — country blues, ragtime, string-band tunes and songster repertoire — on guitar, banjo, fiddle, piano and harmonica. He typically plays solo, in period dress, mixing songs with spoken introductions and jokes, and treats the material as a living family and community tradition rather than a historical exercise. He has recorded a number of albums and works regularly in folk and blues settings, both as a performer and as a teacher of older playing styles.
