Anarcho-punk about English history and cricket, sung by a drummer, and far better than that sounds — four decades of literate, galloping folk-punk devotion.

Blyth Power formed in England in 1983 around drummer and singer Joseph Porter, who had previously played in bands connected to the anarcho-punk scene. The group is unusual in being fronted from behind the kit, and pairs fast, driving punk rhythms with melodic, folk-inflected songwriting.

Porter's lyrics draw heavily on English history, mythology, railways and cricket, often filtered through allegory rather than direct comment. The band has continued through numerous line-up changes and a long run of releases, sustaining a small but durable following in the British punk and folk-punk circles.
