Haunted, minimal anarcho-punk that traded rage for genuine melancholy — 'Let the Tribe Increase' still casts a long shadow.

The Mob formed in Yeovil, Somerset in the late 1970s around singer and guitarist Mark Wilson, later relocating to London and becoming part of the anarcho-punk network that grew up around Crass. They released their records largely through All the Madmen, a label they helped run, and were closely tied to the squat and free-festival scenes of the period.

Their sound was slower and starker than most of their peers, using echo-heavy guitar, tribal drumming and a sense of dread that had as much to do with post-punk as with hardcore. The 1983 album Let the Tribe Increase remains the record they are best known for, alongside singles such as "No Doves Fly Here" and "Witch Hunt".
