Hagar the Womb

1 upcoming festival

Cheerfully shambolic anarcho-punk with several vocalists and no interest in being grim about it — the scene's most smiling veterans.

Hagar the Womb formed in London in 1980, part of the anarcho-punk network that grew up around Crass and its associated labels. The band was notable within that scene for having several vocalists, most of them women, and for a tone that was more playful and sardonic than the unrelenting bleakness of many of their peers. The music was rough and cheap-sounding by design, with shouted group vocals and songs that rarely outstayed their welcome.

After splitting in the mid-1980s the group re-formed decades later and has continued to play and record, drawing both original-era audiences and younger listeners who came to the anarcho catalogue through reissues.
