Skids

1 upcoming festival

Richard Jobson's theatrical Scottish punk, with guitar lines that would later become Big Country — 'Into the Valley' still a rallying cry.

Skids formed in Dunfermline, Scotland in 1977, built around vocalist Richard Jobson and guitarist Stuart Adamson. They emerged from the first wave of British punk but quickly moved toward something broader, with Adamson's ringing, melodic guitar lines and Jobson's declamatory delivery giving the band a sound distinct from their London contemporaries.

"Into the Valley" remains their best-known song, and the group released several albums around the turn of the 1980s. Adamson left to form Big Country, where the guitar style he developed in Skids became a signature; Jobson has led reunited versions of the band in later years.
