Daniel Caesar is a Canadian singer and songwriter, born Ashton Simmonds and raised in Oshawa, Ontario, in a religious household where he sang in church. He built an audience independently in Toronto through a pair of EPs before releasing the album Freudian in 2017.
His music pairs restrained, largely guitar- and keyboard-based arrangements with gospel-derived harmony, leaving considerable space around the vocal. He is known for "Best Part," a duet with H.E.R., and "Get You," featuring Kali Uchis, and later collaborated with Justin Bieber and Giveon on "Peaches."
