Maverick Sabre

1 festival played

Irish-English singer with a startling rasp, moving between soul, reggae, and rap without strain — a voice that sounds lived-in twice over.

Maverick Sabre is the stage name of Michael Stafford, a singer and songwriter born in London and raised in New Ross, County Wexford, in Ireland. His voice is the centre of the work: a hoarse, high-strung soul delivery that he applies across reggae, R&B and hip-hop settings, and he came up partly through UK rap and grime circles before releasing under his own name. His debut album, Lonely Are the Brave, arrived in 2011 and included "Let Me Go" and "I Need". He has continued to release solo material and to appear as a guest vocalist on other artists' records.
