Fabiana Palladino was born in 1987 in central London, the daughter of Welsh bassist Pino Palladino and former backing singer Marilyn Roberts. She grew up in a musical household, playing piano and drums as a child, though she did not originally plan on a music career. She studied English at Goldsmiths, University of London before switching to Music Theory.
She began posting demos online in 2007, later self-releasing the EP Long Nights of War in 2011. Through those early online connections she worked with Ghostpoet and Sampha, who produced her 2014 single 'For You' for Double Denim Records. A further single, 'Young Thing', followed in 2015, alongside session work for Jessie Ware, Sbtrkt and the Maccabees.
Jai Paul discovered her music on SoundCloud while she was working at the Old Vic box office, and signed her to the label he runs with his brother, Paul Institute. She released the singles 'Mystery' in 2017 and 'Shimmer' in 2018, and later signed an album deal with Paul Institute and XL Recordings.
Her music draws on 1980s R&B and pop production - layered synthesisers, programmed drums, close-harmony vocals - arranged with a precision that reflects her own work as a musician and producer. Much of her self-titled 2024 debut was written during COVID-19 lockdown, after she moved back into her parents' home following a breakup.
The album followed the singles 'Stay With Me Through the Night' and 'I Can't Dream Anymore', with 'Drunk' released later that year alongside her first headline shows. In 2025 she contributed production work to Lorde's album Virgin and appeared on Joviale's debut album Mount Crystal.
