Yebba is the stage name of Abbey Smith, a singer from West Memphis, Arkansas, whose surname reversed gives the moniker. She grew up singing in church, and that gospel training shows in her phrasing, dynamic control and use of the upper register. She first drew wide attention through a live recording of "My Mind" performed at Sofar Sounds in New York, which circulated online and led to session and feature work with a range of established artists. Her own material moves between soul, R&B and singer-songwriter forms, generally arranged to leave space for the voice.
