Slingshot Dakota is an American duo formed in 2003, based in Allentown, Pennsylvania, built around keyboards and drums rather than guitars. Carly Comando plays keys and sings; Tom Patterson plays drums. The pair are married, and the band has spent much of its life within the DIY punk and emo communities of the Northeast, releasing records through independent labels and touring basements and small clubs.
Their songs pair bright, hammered piano chords with loud, propulsive drumming, and the writing tends toward direct, emotionally plain lyrics delivered in a clear, unaffected voice. The result sits somewhere between indie pop and punk, and the arrangements are built to fill space with only two players.
