Vancouver pop-rock with theatre-kid ambition — multi-part suites and Josh Ramsay's four-octave showing-off, concept albums played like Broadway.

Marianas Trench formed in Vancouver around singer, guitarist and producer Josh Ramsay, joined by Matt Webb, Mike Ayley and Ian Casselman. Ramsay's early demos caught the attention of 604 Records, and the band signed to the label, co-founded by Chad Kroeger, in 2003.

The band works in pop-punk and pop-rock but with an unusual appetite for structure: layered vocal harmony, multi-part song suites and albums built as continuous narratives. Its six studio albums run from the 2006 debut Fix Me through Masterpiece Theatre, Ever After, Astoria, Phantoms and Haven, with the earliest material reflecting Ramsay's own struggle with addiction, writing he later described as therapeutic.

Ramsay produces much of the band's output and also works as a writer and producer for other artists, most visibly as co-writer and producer of Carly Rae Jepsen's "Call Me Maybe".

The group has been a consistent chart presence in Canada since its second album, picking up seven Juno nominations and a Group of the Year win in 2013. Masterpiece Theatre and Ever After have both gone double-platinum, and singles including "Haven't Had Enough", "Desperate Measures", "Fallout", "Stutter" and "All to Myself" are certified triple platinum.
