Vancouver pop-rock with theatre-kid ambition — multi-part suites and Josh Ramsay's four-octave showing-off, concept albums played like Broadway.

Marianas Trench formed in Vancouver in 2001 around singer, guitarist and producer Josh Ramsay, with Matt Webb, Mike Ayley and Ian Casselman. The band works in pop-punk and pop-rock, but with an unusual appetite for structure: layered vocal harmony, multi-part song suites and albums conceived as continuous narratives, including Masterpiece Theatre, Ever After and Astoria.

Ramsay produces much of the band's output and also works as a writer and producer for other artists, most visibly as co-writer and producer of Carly Rae Jepsen's "Call Me Maybe". The group has been a consistent chart presence in Canada since its second album.
