Men at Work
The Australian new-wave band behind one of the most recognisable flute riffs ever committed to tape — Colin Hay's charm does the rest.
Men at Work came together in Melbourne in 1979, built around singer and guitarist Colin Hay, with Greg Ham contributing the saxophone and flute parts that became a signature of their sound. Their debut album, Business as Usual, was an international success at the start of the 1980s, carried by the singles "Who Can It Be Now?" and "Down Under".
The band's music combined new wave and pop with reggae inflections and Hay's wry, accented delivery. They broke up in the mid-1980s after a handful of albums, and Hay has since maintained a long solo career while continuing to perform the group's material under the Men at Work name.
