Fitz and the Tantrums formed in Los Angeles in 2008 around singer Michael Fitzpatrick, whose early songs were written on a secondhand church organ. The band's defining feature is the vocal pairing of Fitzpatrick and Noelle Scaggs, who trade and stack lines across arrangements that began in retro soul territory — organ, horns, no guitar — and moved steadily toward glossy indie pop over subsequent albums. "MoneyGrabber," "Out of My League" and "HandClap" are the best-known songs, the last of which became a fixture in sports arenas and advertising. Onstage the two singers work as a genuine double act.
