Dutch-Australian producer trading in hard-hitting, high-energy trance sized for the biggest room available.

Marlo Hoogstraten was born in Amsterdam and later settled in Melbourne, where he built his career under the name MaRLo. The capitalisation stems from radio DJs repeatedly introducing him as 'Mario'. In 2010 he was voted Australia's number two trance DJ and placed eleventh overall in the Inthemix Top 50 DJ poll.

He works in the harder end of trance, favouring heavy kick drums, tech-trance grooves and large melodic breakdowns, and has also released tracks leaning toward hard dance and harder techno tempos. He began producing on hardware synthesizers including the Roland JP-8000, Nord Lead, Korg Wavestation and Novation Supernova, before shifting almost entirely to computer-based production.

His releases have come largely through Armada Music, where he runs the Reaching Altitude imprint, home to artists including Heatbeat and Mark Sixma. His tracks have been a regular presence in A State of Trance radio and event programming.

He performs as a DJ rather than with a live band, building sets around his own productions and edits. He is married to Jano, a trance vocalist who has recorded with Armin van Buuren and Andrew Rayel.
