Yes, that Finn Wolfhard — scrappy, sincere indie rock beyond the Stranger Things shadow, garage-band instincts played without celebrity gloss.

Finn Wolfhard was born Finn Michael Wolfhard in Vancouver on December 23, 2002, to a family of French and German descent with Jewish heritage, and attended Catholic school there. His father, Eric Wolfhard, works as a researcher on Indigenous land claims in Canada, and his older brother, Nick Wolfhard, is also an actor. Wolfhard's own first credit, in 2012, was appearing in a music video for the Vancouver band Facts.

He is best known for playing Mike Wheeler on Stranger Things from 2016 to 2025, as well as Richie Tozier in It and It Chapter Two and Trevor Spengler in the two recent Ghostbusters films. Music, though, has run alongside that work for most of his teens and twenties.

Wolfhard fronted Calpurnia as lead vocalist and guitarist, releasing material through Royal Mountain Records before the band split. In 2020 he formed The Aubreys with drummer Malcolm Craig, a project with a looser and more experimental streak than Calpurnia's, alongside occasional solo work of his own.

The music itself sits in a fairly unpretentious indie rock tradition, built from jangling guitars and unforced vocals, with arrangements that sound worked out in a rehearsal room rather than constructed in a studio. It carries little of the polish that might be expected of an actor's side project.

Wolfhard has also moved into directing and screenwriting, making the comedy short Night Shifts in 2020 and the comedy horror feature Hell of a Summer in 2023. He also co-directed a music video for the band Spendtime Palace in 2017, an early sign of that parallel interest.
