The Cab
Vegas pop-rock from the Decaydance orbit, built around Alexander DeLeon's soul-leaning voice — 'Symphony Soldier' loyalists, report in.
Alexander DeLeon and school friend Cash Colligan started playing together at Liberty High School in Las Vegas, recording demos and settling on the name The Cab over options like The Strip and The Casino. Guitarist Paul Garcia and drummer Alex Johnson joined, and the band played its first show at Rock n' Java in December 2005 before releasing two EPs, Drunk Love and Glitz and Glamour, in 2006.
A demo passed to Panic! at the Disco's Jon Walker and Spencer Smith led to a deal with Pete Wentz's Decaydance and its parent label Fueled by Ramen in 2007. By then keyboardist Alex T. Marshall and guitarist Ian Crawford had joined, and Alternative Press was already naming the band one to watch for 2008.
The band centred on DeLeon, whose vocals leaned toward pop and soul phrasing rather than the clipped delivery common to their scene peers. Their songs combined pop-punk and emo-adjacent structures with keyboard-heavy arrangements and heavy use of vocal hooks.
Their debut album, Whisper War, arrived in April 2008, earning them further attention from Alternative Press as one of its 100 Bands You Need to Know. A second album, Symphony Soldier, followed in 2011, funded and released independently after the band left Fueled by Ramen and Decaydance, led by the single 'Bad'.
After lineup changes, the band released the EP Lock Me Up through Republic Records in 2014 before going on hiatus. They returned in 2025 with an independently released EP, Road to Reign: A Prelude, and announced a third album, Chasing Crowns. DeLeon has since also worked as a solo artist and songwriter under the name Bohnes.
