Nashville pop-rock with one enormous 2011 single and a reunion that leaned back into the guitars — 'Tonight Tonight' still pure sugar.

The band began as Miracle Drug in 2005, started by Ryan Follese and Nash Overstreet, releasing a Masquerade EP before Ian Keaggy joined and the name changed to Hot Chelle Rae. Ryan's brother Jamie completed the lineup in 2008, and the group signed to Jive Records, releasing its debut album, Lovesick Electric, in 2009.

"Tonight Tonight" went on to double platinum status in 2011 and drove the band's second album, Whatever, into the charts in the US, Australia and New Zealand. "I Like It Like That," featuring New Boyz, and later "Honestly" followed as singles. The band spent 2012 touring in support of Taylor Swift and Demi Lovato and headlined its own Whatever World Tour with Cher Lloyd, 5 Seconds of Summer and Titanium opening.

Keaggy left in 2013 as the band kept releasing singles including "Hung Up," "Don't Say Goodnight" and "Recklessly," gathered onto an EP in 2014. Ryan Follese released a solo single in 2017 before the group reformed in 2018, returning with "I Hate LA" in 2019 and the Tangerine EP in 2020. Ryan Follese left in 2023, and Nash Overstreet has since taken over lead vocals alongside Jamie Follese on drums.
