William Tyler is a guitarist and composer based in Nashville. Before releasing music under his own name he played as a sideman with Lambchop and Silver Jews, and his solo work is largely instrumental, built on fingerpicked and electric guitar in the lineage of John Fahey and the American primitive tradition. Records such as Impossible Truth and Modern Country extend that approach with full-band arrangements, drones and long, unhurried structures, and Tyler has spoken about the American landscape and its history as a recurring subject. He has also worked in film scoring.
