Ed Sheeran is an English singer, songwriter and guitarist who was born in Halifax and raised in Framlingham, Suffolk. He built an early following through relentless gigging and self-released EPs in London before signing to a major label, and his sound draws on acoustic singer-songwriter folk, pop balladry, hip-hop-influenced phrasing and, on later records, dance and Afrobeat production.
He is known for songs including "The A Team," "Thinking Out Loud," "Shape of You" and "Perfect," and for albums titled with mathematical symbols. Live, he performs alone, using a loop pedal to layer guitar parts, percussive body taps and vocal harmonies into full arrangements — an approach he has scaled up to stadium shows without adding a backing band. He also writes for other artists.
