Carín León

1 festival played

Sonora's genre-bending superstar — música mexicana with country and soul running through it, and one of the biggest voices in the hemisphere.

Carín León is the stage name of Óscar Armando Díaz de León Huez, a singer and songwriter from Hermosillo in the Mexican state of Sonora. He first came to attention as a member of the norteño group Grupo Arranke before going solo, and his recordings draw on ranchera, norteño, banda and mariachi traditions while borrowing openly from blues, soul and American country. His voice is a heavy, gravelly baritone, and he tends to build arrangements around requinto and accordion lines rather than pure sierreño minimalism.

He is widely known for the ballad "Que Vuelvas", recorded with Grupo Frontera, and has collaborated across the border with English-language artists as part of a broader crossover in música mexicana.
