Prolific Austin experimentalist blurring ambient, emo, autotune, and pedal steel into tender, disorienting sound worlds — quietly one of the underground's busiest minds.

More Eaze is the project of Mari Maurice, a composer and multi-instrumentalist based in Austin, Texas. The work moves between ambient composition, computer music, country and pop, often within a single piece, with song forms surfacing and dissolving.

Pedal steel and violin sit alongside heavily processed autotuned vocals, field recordings and digital glitch. Recurring subjects include intimacy, yearning and Americana, with pieces built around turning a vague feeling into something concrete and lived-in.

Maurice releases at a considerable rate, through labels including Orange Milk, Astral Spirits and Full Spectrum, and more recently Thrill Jockey, 15 Love, Longform Editions, Leaving Records and Ecstatic.

Collaboration runs through the project, most prominently a long-running duo with claire rousay, alongside the duos Pink Must, with Lynn Avery, and whait, with Wendy Eisenberg. Maurice also works as a string arranger, pedal steel player and producer, with credits on recent recordings by Martha Skye Murphy, Water Damage, Lomelda, Fashion Club, Space Afrika and Rainy Miller, and Nick Zanca.

The results tend to be quiet and emotionally direct despite their technical strangeness, drawing openly on emo and singer-songwriter traditions as much as on experimental ones.
