American hardcore's most reliably furious political band, name changing with each record — Millions of Dead Cops onward, rage undimmed.

M.D.C. formed in Austin, Texas in 1981 and later relocated to San Francisco, becoming one of the more openly political groups in the first wave of American hardcore punk. The band is fronted by vocalist Dave Dictor, whose lyrics have addressed police violence, the far right, animal rights and gay identity, the last of which made the group an early reference point for queercore.

Their debut album, initially issued under the name Millions of Dead Cops, is a fixture of early-eighties hardcore, and the band has since changed what the initials stand for from record to record. Musically they hold to fast tempos, short songs and shouted vocals, and have continued to perform and record for decades.
