Toronto's gang-of-girlfriends rock band — 'Blame Brett' and unstoppable momentum, breakup revenge served with a smirk.

Sisters Jordan and Kylie Miller started out as young teenagers in a different Toronto pop-punk band, Done with Dolls, alongside drummer Eliza Enman-McDaniel and a different guitarist. When that guitarist left, Leandra Earl joined in 2013 and the group renamed itself after the Beaches, the Toronto neighbourhood where most of them grew up.

Their music runs from garage-leaning rock to sharper pop-rock, built on guitar hooks and vocal harmonies, a sound that carried through two independent EPs before they signed to Universal Records in 2016.

Their 2017 debut album, Late Show, was produced by Metric's Emily Haines and James Shaw and included the single "T-Shirt," which topped the Canadian rock chart, went gold, and helped the band win the 2018 Juno Award for Breakthrough Group of the Year.

The 2023 single "Blame Brett" became a breakout, drawing a much larger international audience to a band that had already spent more than a decade touring, opening for acts including the Rolling Stones and building a run of Juno wins for Group of the Year in the years that followed.

Their songs frequently deal with breakups and dating with a wry, unsentimental sense of humour.
