Ill Niño

1 upcoming festival

New Jersey nu-metal survivors who built their sound on Latin percussion and layered rhythm — groove-first, and heavier than the era's radio fare.

Ill Niño formed in New Jersey in 1999 around drummer Dave Chavarri, with Cristian Machado handling vocals through most of the band's first two decades. The group folded congas, timbales and other Latin percussion into downtuned nu-metal riffing, and Machado alternated between Spanish and English, sung melody and shouted delivery.

Their debut album Revolution Revolución arrived in 2001, followed by Confession in 2003, which produced the widely played single "How Can I Live". The band has continued through numerous lineup changes since, with Marcos Leal taking over lead vocals after Machado's departure.
