Berlin melodic-house romantic — the hot-air-balloon Cercle set guy, whose gorgeous live performances turn synth washes into genuine emotional events.

Ben Böhmer grew up in Göttingen, Germany, where he played piano and trumpet as a child before turning to the synthesiser to write his own material. He later settled in Berlin, the city now most associated with his production and live performances.

He works in melodic and progressive house, building tracks from layered synthesiser pads, piano figures and restrained, mid-tempo rhythms. His live show uses hardware and keyboards rather than a conventional DJ setup, a format that grew directly out of his early training on piano and trumpet.

His first single, "Promise You", appeared on a Ton Töpferei compilation from his hometown at the end of 2015, followed by an EP of the same name the next year. Further tracks came out on Keller Records, Ostfunk Records, Bade Records and several other small labels before a 2017 EP, "Submission", was released on Sacrebleu, the imprint run by German duo AKA AKA.

In 2017 he placed the single "Flug & Fall" on one of Anjunadeep's Exploration compilations, followed by the "Morning Falls" EP in early 2018. His debut album, "Breathing", arrived on Anjunadeep in November 2019, with a second album, "Begin Again", following on the same label in September 2021.

He became widely known beyond the melodic house audience through a filmed performance for Cercle staged in a hot-air balloon over Cappadocia, which has been viewed many millions of times online.
