Berlin rap delivered from behind ski goggles, a novelty premise that turned into genuine chart dominance.

Ski Aggu's real name is August Jean Diederich; he was born in 1997 and grew up in Berlin-Wilmersdorf, where his grandfather, the SPD politician Nils Diederich, was a well-known figure. He started uploading music to SoundCloud in 2018, and his early songs, despite the party subject matter, carried a darker, more melancholic tone, full of references to West Berlin nightlife spots.

He has said he lived for a period in Ireland, training intensively in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and becoming a national champion in his weight class. The ski goggles and tracksuit he wears at every public appearance became his fixed visual identity, framing songs built around shouted hooks and comic snapshots of everyday German life.

His first single, "Weißwein & Pappbecher," appeared in 2020, followed by "Super Wavy" with YFG Pave, his most-streamed track until "Party Sahne" arrived in 2022. Built by producers Endzone and Ericson around a sample of Caesars' "Jerk It Out," "Party Sahne" reached number 32 in Germany and is generally counted as his breakthrough.

His debut album, 2022 war Film gewesen, followed that December. A second album, Denk mal drüber nach..., came out in 2023, and a third, Wilmersdorfs Kind, in 2024. He records and tours often with his childhood friend Ritter Lean, a collaborator since his earliest releases.

"Friesenjung," his collaboration with Dutch rapper Joost and German comedian Otto Waalkes, reworked Waalkes' original song and reached number one on the singles charts in both Germany and Austria, later appearing on his second album. Much of his catalogue is built the same way, through collaboration, and his live shows run closer to a chaotic club set than a conventional rap concert.
