Artur Menezes was born in Fortaleza, Brazil, and moved to Los Angeles, where he has worked as a bandleader and sideman. His playing draws on the electric blues tradition but takes its tone and sustain from rock guitar, with long solos and a heavy amplifier sound. He has won awards at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis and records with a standard blues trio and quartet setup.
