BLK ODYSSY is the project of Juwan Elcock, a bassist and songwriter who was born in New Jersey and works out of Austin. The records are cut with a live band, drawing on seventies funk and soul instrumentation while the production borrows from hip hop, and Elcock's vocals sit back in the mix rather than driving over it. His albums have dealt directly with his brother's death and with Black life in America.
