Joé Dwèt Filé
French singer of Haitian descent whose kompa and zouk runs carry R&B phrasing, and whose "4 Kampé" turned into a streaming staple well beyond the francophone market.
Joé Dwèt Filé is a singer from France of Haitian descent who works in kompa and zouk, singing in French and Haitian Creole. His records keep the gouyad pulse and gliding guitar of kompa while borrowing the melisma and vocal layering of contemporary R&B, and "4 Kampé" carried him well past the French Caribbean audience he started with.
He started singing very young through his church, before moving into Afro-Caribbean styles centered on zouk and konpa. Before releasing under his own name, he lent his voice to other artists' hits, appearing on Stoney's "Que toi," Axel Tony's "Un mot" and Vegedream's "Mama hé."
He formed his own band, Lespada, and built an audience on YouTube before releasing a mixtape with the group. A solo mixtape, #ESOLF (Et Si On Le Faisait), followed in June 2018, and a fifteen-track studio album, À deux, came out in March 2019.
A tour followed through France, Belgium, Switzerland and the United States, including a date at the Olympia in Montreal and an appearance at La Cigale in Paris. Further singles, "Égoïste" with Singuila and "Tu me mens," and the EP Eira in April 2020, kept his profile rising. "Jolie madame," a collaboration with Ronisia, became his biggest hit on France's SNEP singles chart.
4 Kampé, released on 24 October 2024, became a particular success within Afro-Caribbean audiences worldwide, extending a run of releases that had already carried him from YouTube mixtapes to major concert halls in France and Canada.
