Balu Brigada is a New Zealand group built around a pair of brothers, formed in Auckland in 2016. Their music sits between indie pop and R&B-leaning funk, with light falsetto vocals, layered harmonies and a rhythm section that carries most of the melodic weight. The production is deliberately smooth, favouring warm synths and clean guitar figures over guitar-band grit, and the songs tend to be short and hook-driven. The pair write and produce their own material, and have built an audience beyond New Zealand largely through streaming.
