'Lost on You' — that whistle, that voice, a global word-of-mouth phenomenon with a rock lifer's catalog behind it.

LP is the stage name of Laura Pergolizzi, who grew up in Huntington Station on Long Island before moving to New York City in 2004, where she began performing under the LP name. Cracker's David Lowery heard her sing, featured her on the band's Gentleman's Blues, and went on to produce her 2001 debut, Heart-Shaped Scar. Her second album, Suburban Sprawl & Alcohol, followed with producer Linda Perry.

She spent years as a working songwriter, placing material with other artists before her own recordings found a wide audience. The Backstreet Boys recorded her "Love Will Keep You Up All Night," and she wrote extensively for Heidi Montag's Superficial. In 2010 she co-wrote and sang the vocal hook on Rihanna's "Cheers (Drink to That)."

She later settled in Los Angeles, where she is now based. Her voice, a wide-ranging, keening instrument, sits at the centre of everything she releases.

Her breakthrough came with 'Lost on You', which spread first through Europe, particularly France, Greece, Italy and Russia, before reaching listeners elsewhere. The song's whistled hook became her signature, and her catalogue leans on the same combination of indie pop and rock-oriented songwriting, delivered with a ukulele and a full band.
