Eastern Kentucky bandleader with one of the biggest voices in bluegrass, leaning on gospel phrasing and hard-country ballads.

Dave Adkins sings from the bottom of his chest, a heavy, rounded tone that owes as much to country radio and church singing as to the high lonesome tradition. Before forming Mountain Soul he co-led a band with bassist and singer Edgar Loudermilk, and he has spent most of his career working out of eastern Kentucky.
