Toronto trio playing old-time repertoire with clawhammer banjo and fiddle locked tight, arrangements stripped back to what three players can hold.

The Lonesome Ace Stringband is Chris Coole on banjo, John Showman on fiddle and Max Heineman on bass, three musicians long established in Toronto's roots scene. Coole is a clawhammer player with a long track record in Canadian old-time and bluegrass circles, and Showman has worked across fiddle traditions with several other bands. Their sets run on Appalachian tunes and older songs taken at dance tempo, with the bass playing a more active melodic role than the format usually allows.
