The Wilder Blue came together in Texas around 2020, built around singer-songwriter Zane Williams, who had already spent years working as a solo artist in Texas country before assembling the group. The band initially performed under a different name before settling on The Wilder Blue.

Their music draws on country, bluegrass and western traditions, with acoustic-leaning arrangements and a strong emphasis on multi-part vocal harmony — most of the members sing, and lead duties are not confined to one voice. The songs tend toward narrative writing, with characters and place-based imagery rooted in the West and Southwest. They have built their following largely through touring in Texas and the surrounding region.
