Greet Death formed in Flint, Michigan, around 2011, built around the songwriting of Logan Gaval and Harper Boyhtari, who trade off vocals and guitars. Early influences included Cloakroom, True Widow and Nothing, bands working in similarly heavy, downtempo territory, and Alternative Press later named the group among its up-and-coming acts from the Detroit area.
Their music sits between slowcore and shoegaze: slow tempos, heavy distortion, buried melodies and long stretches of quiet before the volume arrives. Songs tend toward extended structures and bleak, plainly worded lyrics about grief, addiction and small-town stasis.
The band's debut album, Dixieland, appeared in 2017 through Flesh and Bone Records. New Hell followed in 2019 on Deathwish Inc., the label that has released their work since. A further EP, New Low, arrived in 2022, and a third full-length, Die In Love, came out in 2025.
Live, the group leans on volume and space rather than speed, letting chords ring out at length. The current lineup includes Jim Versluis on drums and Seth Beck and Eric Beck alongside Gaval and Boyhtari, with Beck and Boyhtari also running a separate project, Christian Science Reading Room.
